Comedy explores Romance in Digital Age

LOL or Love?

How can you tell the difference between real love and fake affection in today’s digital world?

The folks behind the upcoming rom-com Liar, Liar, Love Is on Fire are set to dive into this topic during its premiere in Beijing on Tuesday.

With a domestic release lined up for Saturday, the movie stars actress Zheng Hehuizi and actor Zuo Lingfeng as two internet celebs who find themselves at a career standstill. To get more attention online, they decide to stage a fake wedding during a livestream, pretending to be a happy couple. But things take an unexpected turn, and real feelings start to blossom between them.

Finding LOVE

This flick isn’t just any ordinary film; it’s the directorial debut of scriptwriter Wu Yawen. At the premiere, she shared that the movie was inspired by a funny internet saying that suggests smart people should be cautious about falling in love too quickly.

Wu mentioned, “An interesting survey showed that some people tell little white lies dozens of times a day. This seems especially true for women who often feel the pressure to say things they don’t really mean in different situations. This can make it tough for them to be their true selves. That’s why I started focusing on the female character, wanting to show the challenges and struggles women face along with their deep desire for real love.”
